ILIP AT MACFRUT 2025: FOCUS ON INNOVATIVE PACKAGING FOR BERRIES AND COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

The Bologna-based company will be in Rimini with innovative and sustainable solutions for fresh fruit and vegetables. Protagonist also in the Berry Area as Gold Sponsor with a speech dedicated to packaging for berries.

Bologna (8 April 2025) – On the occasion of the 42nd edition of Macfrut, the international exhibition dedicated to the fruit and vegetable sector, scheduled from 6 to 8 May 2025 at the Rimini Expo Centre, ILIP confirms its participation as an exhibitor and will also be a protagonist in the new Berry Area as Gold Sponsor. The company, one of Europe’s leaders in thermoformed packaging for the fruit and vegetable sector, will present the latest innovations for berries packaging and solutions designed to combine product protection, shelf-life extension and sustainability.

In Hall B3 – Stand 115 ILIP will be exhibiting its R-PET solutions, including the heat-sealable B40 and B46 Air Wave punnets, designed to protect soft fruits like berries, tomatoes, and cherries thanks to the convex bottom, which cushions shocks and eliminates the need for a pad on the bottom. The punnets are fully recyclable in the R-PET stream and represent a concrete response to market demands. It will also be possible to get a closer look at T2T R-PET® (recycled PET tray to tray) products made through the closed R-PET cycle. A virtuous process that allows the recycling not only of post-consumer bottles, but also of PET punnets and trays, thanks to the recycling plant of AMP Recycling, a company of the ILPA Group, of which ILIP is also part.

The latest innovations in fresh produce packaging aim to reduce the use of raw materials and integrate renewable materials with plastic. A concrete example of this approach is ezy:split: the first hybrid punnets made from R-PET and carton designed for the packaging of premium fruit, such as strawberries or cherries. The cardboard backing allows the plastic component to be reduced by up to 45%, while the complete separability of the two materials makes the punnet practical to recycle.

At Macfrut 2025, ILIP will strengthen its dialogue with the berries sector through its participation in the Berry Area, which will include a dedicated exhibition space and a 15-minute presentation slot in the schedule of meetings between sponsors and experts. The company’s talk will focus on the importance of packaging in reducing food waste and improving the preservation of berries.

‘The Berry Area will be a valuable opportunity for us to listen and discuss,’ comments Gianluca Tamagnini, Business Manager of Ilip’s BU Fresh Produce Packaging. ’Packaging plays an increasingly decisive role in the fight against food waste and in the sustainability of the fruit and vegetable supply chain. Our solutions are designed to help producers maintain product integrity in compliance with the new European PPWR regulation that came into force at the beginning of this year.’

ILIP thus confirms its strategy based on the three Rs of sustainability – Reduce, Recycle, Renewable Resources – offering the market packaging solutions designed according to ecodesign principles to meet future regulatory and environmental challenges.

The appointment is from 6 to 8 May 2025 at the Rimini Expo Centre, Hall B3 – Stand 115, to discover all the sustainable and customisable solutions by ILIP.
