SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION: ILIP’S KEYWORDS

The leading Company in the field of thermoformed plastic packaging materials will be exhibiting at Macfrut from 24 to 26 September, in Hall B – stand 328-329

BOLOGNA, 8 September 2014 – Sustainability, innovation, excellence and solidity. These are just some of the keywords highlighted by ILIP, one of the leading manufacturers of thermoformed plastic food packaging, which this year will be exhibiting at Macfrut, with a stand entirely dedicated to the concepts at the heart of its corporate identity.

From 24 to 26 September, the Bologna-based company will be exhibiting in hall B, stand 328-329 of the Cesena Fairgrounds in order to present its activities and vision to the fresh produce operators. In this vision packaging meets the technical and functional requirements for optimal management, storage and distribution, while at the same time exalting the product packaged by the consumer and it is environmentally sustainable.

“This year we have decided to highlight our distinctive values in Cesena”, explains Roberto Zanichelli, ILIP Sales & Marketing Director. “We want them to become the company’s hallmarks towards stakeholders, as well as towards every operator in the fresh produce industry, with particular attention being placed upon sustainability and innovation.”

ILIP has always been a pioneer in the field of environmental sustainability. The Bologna-based company was the packaging industry’s first to adhere to the Save Food initiative, a round table launched by FAO, Messe Düsseldorf and Interpack that’s dedicated to resolving the food waste problem currently affecting approximately one third of the world’s production, which has an environmental impact equivalent to 3.3 billion tonnes of CO2 per year, according to the “Food wastage Footprint” report. By ensuring long-lasting product safety and providing solutions aimed at improving the management of logistics and distribution, innovation in the packaging industry is vital to reducing this impact.

To this end, for example, ILIP has collaborated with the Department of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Bologna, which has conducted two studies regarding the effects of packaging upon the grapes’ and strawberries’ shelf life.

With regard to product presentation, ILIP will be exhibiting its products portfolio at Macfrut, including the new triangular clamshell for tomatoes, which has served to extend the company’s product range in this segment. The company will also be exhibiting its complete range of products for paraguayo peaches, including the punnet/lid (B44) and clamshell (SETB44) (both made from r-PET), as well as a complete range of fruit nest trays in 30×40, 29×49 and 40×60 formats.

Among the more recent innovations, the company will also be exhibiting the B43 salad bowl with PSV (Plastic Second Life) certification, an heat sealable tray for IV range and ready-made salads made with 80% r-PET, which was awarded the 2013 Sette Green Award by Corriere della Sera for the Packaging category.
