ILPA CLOSES THE LOOP WITH THE TAKING OVER OF AMP IN FERRARA
An agreement has been signed to save the Ferrara-based company, with a foreseen investment of 2 million Euros over two years. The deal is strategic for the vertical integration of the use of recycled PET, as well as for the company’s entrance into the horticultural sector
ILPA Srl, a leading European manufacturer of thermoformed plastic food packaging and disposable tableware, located in Bazzano (BO – Italy), has signed an agreement for the leased management of AMP Films & Packaging in Ferrara.
Thanks to the agreement, newco AMP RECYCLING, which is controlled 100% by ILPA, will lease the Ferrara-based company, which has been undergoing a difficult crisis during the past two years. The announcement was made by the representatives of the Bologna-based company itself, as well as those of the Province and Municipality of Ferrara, the trade unions, the development institution Sipro and Carife Spa bank.
The operation, which foresees the investment of an estimated 2 million Euros over two years time, will allow the group from Bazzano to integrate into its own production system AMP’s facilities and post-consumer PET washing and recycling system.
For some time, in fact, the Bologna-based company has already been making use of lines for the transformation of r-PET, the use of which as an alternative to virgin plastic materials leads to energy consumption reduction, reduced carbon dioxide emissions and decreased volumes of waste. From a strategic standpoint, the acquisition of AMP will result in the vertical integration and complete monitoring of the PET recycling process, from post consumption to the new finished product.
“Firstly, we’d like to thank the industry’s institutions and associations for their involvement”, said Riccardo Pianesani, legal representative of ILPA Srl. “We’re pleased that our contribution has provided for a result that will allow us to maintain our investments in the Emilia Romagna Region and further our commitmens to environmental sustainability.”
“In terms of employment”, Pianesani added, “we will be reinstating 44 jobs immediately, and we plan to reinstate a total of 59 by the time the foreseen interventions are completed. Our goal for the end of the 42-month lease is to finalize the acquisition of the company.”
Through the management of AMP, a well-established company in the sector of containers for the horticultural industry, ILPA will also expand its own product range, which already currently includes fresh produce, food service and fresh food packaging.
