ILIP AT FRUIT ATTRACTION: CASTING THE LIMELIGHT ON ECO-DESIGN AND PACKAGING IN 100% CLOSED LOOP RECYCLED PET
The brand’s new projects for sustainability will be on show in Madrid between 22nd and 24th October: from downgauging to the traceability of r-PET
VALSAMOGGIA (BO, xx October 2019) – Sustainable and efficient fresh produce packaging takes centre stage at Fruit Attraction with ILIP, European leaders in plastic processing. The brand will be presenting its range of solutions designed to protect, value and preserve the freshness of fresh fruit and vegetables in Madrid from 22nd to 24th October (Hall 3, Booth 3B12).
At a time when plastic packaging is the centre of attention owing to the environmental repercussions of its mass use, ILIP is taking a holistic and objective approach to sustainability to Madrid, which the brand has implemented for more than ten years, based on the “three Rs”: reducing, recycling and renewable resources.
From 2010 to date, ILIP has reduced the weight of its fresh produce packaging by 9.1%, saving 3,098 tonnes of raw materials, without compromising performance in terms of practicality, hygiene and product preservation. One such success story is that of the B19NR punnet, where the design of the side ribbing improves the mechanical and product preservation performance even in the presence of lighter sides.
2019 has seen the launch of project ILIP Eco-design with the aim of reducing the average weight of specific lines of fresh produce punnets, such as the B40 and SETB33, by a further 1%. All without compromising the fundamental role played by packaging in containing food waste, according to a logic of “fit4purpose”: the right balance of weight and performance for each product.
“The event in Madrid is increasingly strategic for the European fresh produce market – states Nicola Ballini, General Manager of ILIP – For us, meeting and liaising with customers, manufacturers and retailers is vital in order to work on the sustainability of the agrifood supply chain and develop innovative packaging solutions, suitable for various needs and which would have a positive impact on the whole community”.
In addition to the fruit articles in the Eco-Design projects, which can be identified by dedicated labels on the base of the punnets, at Fruit Attraction ILIP will be illustrating project “ILIP Closed Loop 100% r-PET”, whose aim is to produce packaging in 100% recycled PET with the complete traceability of the recycling supply chain.
This is possible thanks to the integration of the closed loop within the ILPA group, which is in a position to manage all steps, from post-consumer material washing through to the new finished product. In addition to being among the leading European groups in the industry to pursue the EU’s circular economy objectives, thanks to the closed loop ILPA is in a position to guarantee the quality, origin and complete traceability of reused materials.
Make a note in your diary to see all of ILIP’s new products at Fruit Attraction from 22nd until 24th October, Hall 3, booth 3B12.
